Operation Southern Shield 2022 will take place from Tuesday, February 22, 2022, through Friday, February 25, 2022, on Interstate 10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico state line, and on Interstate 19 to the international border.

On the morning of Wednesday, February 9, 2022, an AZDPS State Trooper attempted to stop the driver of a Chevrolet SUV for moving violations on Interstate 40 eastbound near Winslow. The driver failed to stop and continued eastbound, prompting a pursuit.
On Friday, January 28, 2022, an AZDPS State Trooper stopped the driver of a Honda sedan traveling westbound on Interstate 8 at milepost 176, near Casa Grande.
On Sunday, January 30, 2022, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers were advised of a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Route 202 in Tempe.
On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) trooper stopped the driver of a Dodge passenger van for speeding and unsafe following distance on westbound Interstate 10 at milepost 229, west of Marana.
On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) trooper initiated a stop on the driver of a white Jeep Compass for unsafe driving behavior and an equipment violation near 29th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix.
On Friday, January 21st, 2022, an AZDPS trooper initiated a traffic stop on the driver of a Chevrolet sedan on eastbound Interstate 40 at milepost 204, in Flagstaff.

During a one-week period of operation from Tuesday, December 7, 2021, through Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) troopers seized over 664 pounds of methamphetamine and 37 pounds of fentanyl.
Just after 5 p.m. on December 8, 2021, two Arizona State Troopers were finishing collision investigations in a parking lot on McDowell Road, just east of State Route 51, when an unknown man knelt in front of a parked patrol vehicle.
