Controlled Substances

Controlled substance or seized drug analysis is the testing of an unknown substance suspected to be a drug to determine its chemical composition.

The Scientific Analysis Bureau provides analysis of unknown substances to determine the amount and identity of the substance. This analysis, completed using a screening and confirmation process, is performed at all four of the regional laboratories. Additionally, analysts provide instruction to officers statewide in the field test training program, a program that allows quick identification of potential drugs. The Scientific Analysis Bureau also offers a modified field drug test program within the laboratory, allowing rapid analysis and reporting of results within a quick time frame./font>

Each year, the Scientific Analysis Bureau performs analysis on an average of more than 13,000 controlled substance cases.
