Toxicology

Toxicology analysis is the testing of a biological sample to determine the absence or presence of drugs and poisons.

The Scientific Analysis Bureau provides analysis of blood and urine specimens at the Central and Southern regional laboratories. Using a two-step screening and verification process, analysts determine amounts and identities of various drugs and toxins, including both illegal and prescription drugs. Additionally, the unit provides support to the statewide DRE program, a program that trains officers to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to, alcohol. The support comes in the form of analysis of samples in DRE cases as well as providing instruction at DRE training classes.
