Fleet services is a valuable in-house support function at the department that is responsible for procuring and maintaining the department's fleet of extreme-use vehicles. When new vehicles arrive for department use, fleet personnel take them through the "build-up" process to make them fully functioning operational vehicles for highway patrol, criminal investigations, and other operational and support units.
During FY2016, fleet procured and completed the "build-up" of 165 law enforcement vehicles for department use. Fleet also oversaw or completed maintenance on over 2,300 vehicles and pieces of equipment during the fiscal year. In addition, fleet decommissioned/salvaged 140 vehicles that had met the end of their useful life at the department due to high-mileage and/or other factors.
Also during FY2016, as part of the department's rebranding initiative, fleet services adopted new graphics for department vehicles and began marking those vehicles as part of the "build-up" process.
