Arizona Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers place 140 vehicles out of service during Operation Roadcheck

The massive three-day operation took place from June 4th through June 6th

A three-day special enforcement detail along Interstate 40 by the DPS Commercial Enforcement bureau June 4th-June 6th resulted in 140 commercial vehicles being placed out of service for mechanical violations. The most significant violations found involved braking systems, tires/wheels and safe loading. In addition, 135 of the commercial vehicle drivers were placed out of service mostly for being over federal standards for hours of service and false records of duty status.

DPS teamed up with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Arizona Trucking Association for this major enforcement detail which was conducted along the interstate highways in the Flagstaff area.

Officers from DPS along with other federal, state and local agencies including the Arizona Department of Transportation completed comprehensive inspections of commercial vehicles where mechanical components and driver credentials were examined.

“The men and women of the law enforcement agencies involved in the detail demonstrated an outstanding work ethic and the truck industry significantly increased the impact of the operation by assisting with the outreach and communication efforts to drivers on our highways,” said DPS Captain Deston Coleman.

DPS also conducted Operation D.A.R.T. (driver awareness regulation training) at the Little America and Pilot Truck Stop in Flagstaff. DART was developed to provide up to date information regarding rules and regulations directed toward the over the road commercial vehicle driver. The Arizona Trucking Association also provided education to the motoring public who stopped by to discuss safety on the roadways. Information was made available regarding passenger cars and commercial vehicles interacting on the highways.
