AZDPS Urging Safe Travel During the Labor Day Weekend
Phoenix — The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) will have a high-profile presence along Arizona highways and freeways during Labor Day weekend. DPS will also coordinate safety efforts with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
DPS urges motorists to:
- Get plenty of rest before driving
- Wear safety restraints
- Obey speed limits
- Refrain from driving distracted
- Refrain from driving impaired
- Report all dangerous driving behavior via 9-1-1 immediately
In an effort to reduce crashes and delays that result from speeding and driver inattention, ADOT will reduce speed limits during peak holiday travel periods on a winding stretch of Interstate 17 north of Phoenix. DPS will partner with ADOT by helping to slow drivers down on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson and I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff and State Route 87 between Mesa and Payson. Additionally, troopers will be focusing on helping stranded drivers due to the intense summer heat.
DPS Director Col. Frank Milstead said, “We all have a responsibility to keep Arizona drivers safe this Labor Day weekend, help us make the highways even safer by reporting all dangerous drivers via 911.”
