Impaired Drivers to be Targeted by Major Enforcement Effort

Eleven agencies to take part December 16
Wednesday, December 14, 2016
- For Immediate Release -

Maricopa County, Arizona — On December 16, 2016, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), will sponsor a major law enforcement detail targeting impaired drivers. The detail will primarily target impaired drivers in the West Valley in an effort to make both highways and city streets safe during the holiday season.

In addition to AZDPS, the following law enforcement agencies will be taking part in the detail:

Phoenix Police
Goodyear Police
Peoria Police
Glendale Police
Buckeye Police
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office
Surprise Police
Avondale Police
Wickenburg Police
El Mirage Police
Arizona State University Police

“As Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, I am proud of the many law enforcement agencies for their commitment by participating in the Impaired Driving Task Force details this holiday season. I commend the dedication of all law enforcement officers statewide who are risking their own lives in getting impaired drivers off our highways and roads.”

“The West Valley DUI Task Force will be out in full force with more than 66 officers – troopers and support staff to stop impaired drivers. Please enjoy the holidays but do so responsibly by having a sober Designated Driver,” said Alberto Gutier.

“The effort of so many West Valley agencies to unify and combat impaired driving is impressive. The combined efforts will certainly lead to arrests of impaired drivers and will certainly prevent crashes that would have been caused by impairment. Know that if you drive impaired, the combined effort of more than a dozen police agencies will be looking for you,” said Captain Tim Mason with AZDPS.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is a state-level law enforcement agency whose mission is to protect human life and property by enforcing state laws, deterring criminal activity and providing vital support to the State of Arizona and its citizens.
