Trooper Involved In Shooting After Gang Members Ram His Vehicle and Point A Gun
On Thursday, January 30, 2020, at about 5:30 PM, DPS troopers became aware of several subjects known to be gang members who were involved in an illegal weapons transaction. During the transaction a robbery took place. Following the robbery, troopers attempted to apprehend the suspects in the area of 91st and Montebello avenues, in Glendale, AZ. In an attempt to avoid apprehension, the suspects rammed the trooper's vehicle, disabling it. One of the suspects pointed their gun at the troopers, and in an effort to protect himself and the public, the trooper fired his duty weapon at the suspect. The suspects then fled the area, abandoning their vehicle in the area of the 8900 block of West Maryland Avenue. Due to his injuries from one of the trooper’s rounds, one suspect remained at the scene. Troopers provided and requested medical assistance. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital where he remains in critical condition. The other two suspects fled the area and remain at large.
No troopers were injured.
DPS is working closely with Glendale PD in a coordinated effort to take the remaining suspects into custody.
The only information we have on the two outstanding suspects is they are two African American males wearing dark clothing.
Residents should call 911 if they see suspicious activity in the area of the 8900 block of West Maryland Avenue.
