Sunrise Optimist Club of Yuma Recognizes Trooper Conner for Outstanding Accomplishments in Community

The Sunrise Optimist Club of Yuma is an organization geared towards children in thousands of communities throughout the country. One goal of the organization is to inspire respect for the law. The organization has a club located in Yuma, AZ, that holds an annual banquet honoring peace officers from local agencies.

At this year’s banquet, Trooper Michael Conner of District 4 was chosen to represent DPS and was recognized for his outstanding accomplishments in the community.

Trooper Conner

Trooper Conner received the 2016 Field Training Instructor (FTI) of the Year for the Southern Bureau. Trooper Conner has been an FTI since 2013, where he has trained a total of nine troopers. In 2016 alone, he trained six of those nine. His hard work and determination to be train these troopers to be the best they can be, working long hours, and traveling two to three hours round trip, rightfully earned him the distinguished title of 2016 FTI of the Year.

“To be chosen as the Field Training Instructor of the Year is truly an honor,” said Trooper Conner. “Every trooper I trained taught me something that helped me become a better trooper, and I am thankful for that.”

At the Optimist Club banquet, Trooper Conner was surrounded by other distinguished peace officers from local agencies. “It was a good feeling to be among others who were selected to represent their agencies for the hard work they put forth,” said Trooper Conner, “I’m very grateful and honored to have represented DPS at this event.”
