A family knows no limit. The sense of family is strong throughout the Department of Public Safety.
At DPS, family doesn’t stop at the end of the shift. Their family at home, becomes your family. And when one of your brothers or sisters loses their life in the line of duty, you vow to always take care of their family.
Savanna Harris celebrated her 8th grade Promotion without a very special person by her side, her father, Trooper Chris Marano, who died in the line of duty.
Savanna celebrated her great achievements with her family, including six tremendously proud troopers who worked with her father. These troopers represent the continued love and commitment the whole Departmenthas for Trooper Marano, his family and all the troopers lost in the line of duty.
“I am so proud of Savanna and know Trooper Marano was watching over her on this special night,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Lugo. “I am equally impressed with my troopers for doing their best to keep the Marano family whole and in their hearts.”
Trooper Marano was killed on December 17, 2009 at the age of 28. He was struck by a vehicle while deploying stop sticks on the freeway during a pursuit. He is survived by his wife, Shelly, and four children, Savanna, Brianna, Saleen and Bella. For more information on Trooper Marano and the other troopers DPS has lost, please visit DPS Fallen Troopers.
