We offer many opportunities for citizens to help make our state an even better place to live. As a
volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of different areas of the department providing an invaluable service to communities around the state. We provide challenging opportunities to men and women desiring to become either a volunteer reserve officer or a civilian volunteer. Consider sharing your most precious gift — your time. Whatever you can spare, a few hours a week, or several hours a day, we need your help! Our reserve officers perform the same duties provided by full-time officers of the Department. Civilian volunteers provide technical and administrative support in a wide variety of areas.
Applicants must complete and submit an application for all volunteer positions. All volunteer reserve officers must be at least 21 years of age, or will be 21 prior to graduation from an approved law enforcement training academy. Civilian volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must furnish a copy of their high school diploma (or G.E.D.) (required for reserve officer positions), birth certificate, have a valid driver license (required for reserve officer positions) and/or other form of identification and successfully pass an extensive interview and background investigation, a polygraph examination and a drug-screening.
All volunteers will be provided with orientation training and any other training necessary for the position where they will be working.

Applicants will receive either a passing or a failing score for each event. The applicant must successfully complete each testing event to continue with the physical fitness testing.
