Overview
The Concealed Weapons Permit Unit (CWPU) operates under the authority of the State of Arizona concealed carry law, Arizona Revised Statute 13-3112, and Arizona Administrative Rules R13-9-101 through R13-9-603.
The mission of the CWPU team is to provide timely and accurate services to our customers. We embrace the latest technologies and welcome innovative ideas to assist our operations in an ever changing industry.
Service professionals of the CWPU:
- Process new and renewal CCW permit applications; authorize CCW instructor applications; authorize firearms-safety training organizations; and issue Certificates of Firearms Proficiency in accordance with the Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act (LEOSA) of 2004.
- Respond to inquiries from the public, media outlets, industry professionals and governmental entities regarding eligibility, program trends and legislative actions.
- Provide training to law enforcement personnel.
- Suspend or revoke the authorization of persons or training organizations no longer eligible for participation in the program.
- Conduct compliance reviews with instructors and training organizations to ensure adherence to applicable laws and rules; provide necessary training to encourage compliance.
- Publish the "Concealed Courier" newsletter for CCW instructors, training organizations and law enforcement personnel.
- Maintain the "Official Arizona Concealed Weapons" web page.
