Mission

To validate or credential applicants who qualify for designated programs mandated by federal law or state statute.

To assure the integrity of access procedures to sensitive law enforcement information within the state.


UNIT MISSIONS:

Concealed Weapon Permit Unit (CWPU):

To issue permits to applicants who qualify to carry concealed firearms.

To certify CCW Firearm Safety Instructors and approve CCW Training Organizations.

Insure program compliance, investigate CCW complaints and pursue administrative and/or criminal action.

Licensing Unit (LIC):

New Licensing Website

To license applicants who qualify to operate a private investigator or security guard business.

To register qualified applicants for employment as a private investigator or security guard.

Firearms Clearance Center (FCC):
To validate the eligibility of firearms purchasers.


SUBPROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Licensing Bureau:

Issues concealed weapon permits to qualified Arizona residents, approves instructors and training course outlines for the required firearms safety training course.

Provides services related to the screening, licensure and investigation of employees and agencies engaged in the private investigation and security guard industries in Arizona.

Provides an instant state and national-level background check system used by licensed firearms dealers to approve or deny the sale of handguns to individuals seeking purchase.

Trains and coordinates the statewide terminal operator certification program for Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) network users; coordinates requests for ACJIS terminal access; audits ACJIS network user agencies to verify adherence to privacy and security regulations and to insure data integrity of criminal justice information; compiles and publishes data for the Arizona Uniform Crime Report program; provides training to Arizona criminal justice agencies on requirements of arrest/disposition reporting to the central repository; conducts criminal history record reviews on a county by county basis to insure compliance with state regulations.
