The Department of Public Safety Special Enforcement Bureau consists of four diverse and unique districts which provide services on a statewide basis. Detailed information regarding each district is provided as follows:
The Gang Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission (GITEM)
Assists criminal justice agencies statewide in formulating and implementing criminal gang enforcement and investigative strategies.
Consists of twelve squads geographically located in following counties: Maricopa, Coconino, Mohave, Navajo/Apache, Pinal, Pima, Cochise and Yuma.
Collects and shares gang information with other law enforcement agencies.
Trains criminal justice personnel regarding identification and interdiction of gangs.
Educates the public through community awareness programs and presentations.
Special Operations Unit (SOU)
SOU consists of two teams in Phoenix and one team in Flagstaff, Show low, and Tucson.
Provides tactical and technical assistance to all law enforcement agencies statewide involving potentially life threatening situations, and civil emergencies.
SOU is available for statewide response on a 24 hour basis.
Trains other criminal justice agencies regarding tactics and specialized skills.
Assists all law enforcement agencies in state and out of state with locating and arresting felony fugitives.
Provides intelligence to out of country agencies on located felons in their area who have active extraditable felony warrants in N.C.I.C.
Trains personnel in surveillance techniques.
Assists the Department of Corrections with executing felony warrants on parole violators.
Assists the counties with executing felony warrants on probation violators.
Provides intelligence to case officers on suspects who might be employed in the state of Arizona through the Department of Economic Security, (D.E.S.).
Provides needed manpower to any police officers agency when serving search/arrest warrants.
Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
EOD consists one team which has members in Phoenix, Flagstaff and Tucson.
EOD is available for statewide response on a 24 hour basis.
The EOD Unit will render safe and/or remove suspected improvised explosive devices, hazardous devices, incendiary devices, explosives, explosive chemicals, pyrotechnics and ammunition.
Conducts post blast crime scene investigations.
Provides technical and tactical support to Special Operations Unit.
Assists other state and local agencies with bomb threat awareness, IED identification, explosive safety programs.
Hazardous Materials Unit (CDL)
Consist of specially trained technicians that responds statewide to hazardous material incidents.
Protects life, property, and environment by coordinating the mitigation of emergencies pertaining to hazardous materials.
Works in concert with representatives of the industry, public, and other agencies to achieve the goal of a safely controlled incident.
Provides technical hazardous materials expertise to all agencies requesting assistance.
