Safety and Loss Prevention Unit

 

Introduction:

 

The Arizona Department of Public Safety's Safety and Loss (S&L) Prevention Unit is responsible for the agency's

compliance of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) and Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) State Risk Management statutes, rules, regulations, standards, and directives.

A civilian manager, one safety analyst, and two administrative assistants staff the unit. Organizationally, S&L reports to the Management Services lieutenant.

 

                                         

Primary Functions:  

  • S&L develops, and coordinates the agency's occupational safety and health programs as required by Federal and State standards.  
  • S&L is the agency's liason to the Arizona Department of Administration Risk Management for the purposes of:

•  Reporting and processing the agency's damage and loss claims for vehicles, property, and glass.

•  Reporting and processing workers' compensation injuries to Agency employees.  

  • S&L conducts agency risk identification and assessment.  
  • S&L implements a Loss Prevention Program to reduce the agency's frequency and severity of losses.
  • S&L reviews and analyzes agency and third party claims to identify and recommend potential loss prevention opportunities.

Arizona Revised Statutes Requirements and Limitations:

All actions against the State must be filed in accordance with A.R.S. § 12-821 and A.R.S. § 12-821.01. The statutes require the actions to be filed with the State of Arizona within 180 days after the cause of action accrues.
