Highway Patrol focusing on restraint use during Buckle Up campaign
Seatbelt and child restraints will be a focus of the Highway Patrol May 19 to June 1
Thursday, May 22, 2014 -
During the period spanning May 19 through June 1, the Highway Patrol will partner with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in order to focus on seatbelt and child restraint use.
During 2010, 497 fatalities occurred on our roadways in Arizona. In 232 of those, or 47 percent, seat belts were not used.
Although Arizona has a secondary seatbelt law, the increased patrols will be used to maintain a higher visibility during the increased traffic season. Officers will focus on hazardous traffic violations and also ensure compliance with Arizona’s seatbelt laws.
Buckle Up Arizona…It’s the Law is part of the national Click it or Ticket campaign which focuses on seatbelt and restraint use across the country.
Motorists who wear the seatbelt and restraints can reduce serious injuries and death by approximately 50 percent. BUCKLE UP ARIZONA…ITS THE LAW
