Suspect in Assault of Highway Patrol Officer Sought by DPS Detectives
Rafael Reyna III is wanted by DPS for Aggravated Assault of Highway Patrol Officer on January 1

Detectives with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) are searching for Rafael Reyna III who assaulted a DPS Motor Officer in the early morning hours of January 1 in the East Valley.
Rafael Reyna III was driving eastbound on US 60 near Extension Road around 2:45 a.m. when he was stopped by the DPS motor officer. As the officer was arresting Reyna for suspicion of DUI, Reyna turned around and hit the officer numerous times in the face causing significant damage. Reyna then fled the scene in a vehicle with one handcuff still on his left wrist. The vehicle has since been recovered.
The motor officer was hospitalized for his injuries and is at home recovering.
Rafael Reyna III is a convicted felon and has a history of violence towards law enforcement. DPS is asking for assistance from the public in locating Rafael Reyna III. He is described as 5’7”, 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes and is 25 years old. Rafael Reyna III has numerous tattoos to include multiple tattoos on his face.
The United States Marshal Service, Silent Witness, Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association are offering a reward of at least $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Rafael Reyna.
