Four Killed In Collision South Of Bullhead City

Excessive speed a contributing factor in the collision

Four people, including two teenagers, were killed following a collision south of Bullhead City on Monday, October 21. The collision happened at about 7:00 p.m. along State Route 95 at milepost 239, which is at Dunlap Ave.

A passenger car was traveling above the posted speed limit northbound along State Route 95 when it traveled left of center across a turn lane and into the southbound traffic lane. The passenger car collided with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that was traveling southbound along State Route 95.

Both occupants of the passenger car were deceased at the scene. The occupants were Sean Anthony Ward, 17, of Moore, Oklahoma (the driver of the vehicle) and Jessica Qualkenbush, 14, of Fort Mohave, Arizona (passenger).

The driver of the SUV, James Scott Burford, 51, of Mohave Valley, Arizona, was flown to Sunrise Medical Center following the collision and later died. The passenger of the SUV, William Burford, 53, of Mohave Valley, Arizona, was transported from the scene but was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) encourages the public to drive with due regard for other motorists by observing traffic laws.

The investigation, which is being conducted by DPS, is ongoing.
