Arizona Department of Public Safety Set to Begin a New Round of Hiring for Officers and Reserve Officers

The Arizona Department of Public Safety will begin accepting applications for Cadet Officer, Officer (Az Post certified), and Reserve Officer (Volunteer) beginning Monday, July 8, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. Applications will be accepted online at until Monday, July 15, 2013, at 5:00 p.m.

At this time, positions are available statewide with the exception of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. At DPS, assignments are based on critical need areas. Applicants can choose a location where they would like to be assigned but there is NO guarantee of a specific assignment. Officers who are hired will be assigned to areas throughout the state based on the existing needs of the Department.

Interested applicants should visit the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s website at to submit a job interest card for Cadet Officer or Officer to ensure DPS is able to update them on the application process.

If applicants have not already done so, they are encouraged to visit prior to July 8 to create an account. An account will have to be established to begin the Department’s online application process.

The written test will be administered on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in Phoenix. All candidates that successfully complete the written examination will be invited to the physical fitness examination on Wednesday July 24, 2013, in Phoenix. All candidates who successfully complete both the written test and PT will be invited to participate in the Qualifications Appraisal Boards (QABs). QABs will begin on Thursday, July 25, 2013, and continue through the week and into the next.

Candidates who are successful with the QAB’s will be placed on an 18-month eligibility list that will be used to fill vacancies in the November 2013 academy and future academies.
