State Gang Task Force to Host Gang Awareness Event at Teleos Preparatory Academy on May 17
State Gang Task Force Outreach Program Aims to Educate Children About Gangs
Thursday, May 16, 2013 -
On May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., detectives with the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission (GIITEM) will be hosting a gang awareness event at the Teleos Preparatory Academy in downtown Phoenix.
The goal of this event is to educate children about the risks of joining gangs and the negative implications associated with gang involvement. The ability for today’s youth to be able to approach and talk with detectives/officers will help build a relationship that will last the rest of their childhood and into their adult lives. The ultimate goal is to help prevent children from joining gangs and reduce the impact criminal street gangs have on our communities.
Also attending this field day will be officers from the Highway Patrol, K-9, SWAT, and one of the Air Rescue Helicopters.
The Phoenix Police Department and Goodyear Police Department will also be sending officers/detectives for the event.
