Wednesday, October 3, 2012 -
Detectives from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the LaPaz County Narcotics Task Force, discovered a large and sophisticated marijuana field near Wenden, Ariz., early Tuesday morning.
Approximately 4,500 marijuana plants were eventually discovered and later destroyed. The field had a complex irrigation system as well as a security fence that surrounded the entire one-acre field. These plants ranged from two to five feet in height and were distributed to several locations throughout the one acre site.
If cultivated, this field could have easily produced 400 pounds of usable marijuana with an estimated street value of $100,000 in Arizona and $300,000 on the east coast.
