ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY INVESTIGATES FATAL COLLISION INVOLVING A SEMI TRUCK AND A SUV
THE COLLISION CLOSED U.S. 93 FOR SEVERAL HOURS
Friday, April 27, 2012 -
Just after 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26 the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a head-on collision involving a semi truck and a SUV on US 93 ten miles north of Wickenburg.
Witnesses said they saw SUV traveling soutbound and for unknown reasons, drifted left of center and struck the semi truck head-on. The semi truck veered off the road and caught fire, several feet from where the initial crash occurred. The drivers of both vehicles were deceased on scene.
The U.S. 93 was closed for several hours during the collision investigation and travelers were re-routed from U.S. 93 to S.R. 89, then to S.R. 71 to avoid the closed highway. The roadway was re-opened just after 7 p.m.
The deceased drivers were identified as:
- Sergio Horcos, 55, Wickenburg (Driver of SUV)
- Mark Santorii, 44, Las Vegas, NV (Driver of semi truck)
The exact cause of this collision is still under investigation.
