Product Qualification

AR15 Style Rifle Systems for Law Enforcement

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) is receiving products for testing from companies who manufacture AR15 style rifle systems for Law Enforcement that meet the following specifications:

1. Gas Piston Operated System

· AR15 Style Platform

· Ambidextrous Safety, Magazine release, and bolt release

· Free floated fore-end with multiple accessory mounting points

· Select fire, chambered in 5.56mm, with a 11.5 inch barrel (minimum length required)

· 5.56mm Weapon must shoot a 2 inch group or less at 100 yards during bench mounted testing (2 MOA)

· Chambered in 7.62mm, with a 12 inch barrel (minimum length required)

· 7.62mm Weapon must shoot a 1 inch group or less at 100 yards during bench mounted testing (1 MOA)

· Flat top receiver fore-end with flip up sighting system

2. Direct Gas Impingement System

· AR15A3 Style Platform

· Quad rail fore-end in the standard AR15A3 fore-end mounting configuration

· Chambered in 5.56mm, with a 16 inch barrel (minimum length required)

· 5.56mm Weapon must shoot a 2 inch group or less at 100 yards during bench mounted testing (2 MOA)

· Standard M4 style collapsible stock with a minimum of four adjustable positions

· Chrome lined chamber and bore.

Weapon Test Specifications: Below are the testing specifications your weapon will be tested against.

· Gas Piston Weapons 10 year/25,000 round life expectancy

· Direct gas impingement weapons 10 year/10,000 round life expectancy

· All 5.56 mm weapons will be bench fired at 100 yards with 3 rounds and maintain a 2 minute of angle accuracy.

· All 7.62mm (308win) weapons will be bench fired at 100 yards with 3 rounds and maintain a 1 minute of angle accuracy.

· All 5.56mm weapons must pass a feed testing of 60 rounds of duty ammunition reliably. (Federal 55 grain TRU BTHP)

· All 5.56mm weapons must pass a feed testing of 60 rounds of practice ammunition reliably. (Federal 55 grain XM193 Ball)

· All 7.62mm weapons must pass a feed testing of 60 rounds of duty ammunition. (Federal 168 grain BTHP Gold Medal Match)

· All 5.56mm direct gas impingement weapons must complete a 360 round continuous fire test reliably without cleaning.

· All gas piston weapons must complete a 500 round continuous fire test reliably without cleaning.

· All 5.56mm gas piston weapons must complete a 112 round continuous select fire test reliably.

· All weapons will be chronographed for velocity in relation to terminal ballistics.

Submission of product does not guarantee purchase or binding contract.

Please submit Semi – Auto Rifle products to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Firearms Training Unit, 2102 West Encanto Blvd. MD2550, Phoenix, Arizona 85009, on or before close of business October 27th, 2010.

All Select Fire Weapon Manufactures must contact Sgt. G.H. “Bud” Clark directly at (602)-361-1359 or by e-mail at gclark@azdps.gov to coordinate product testing as weapons will need to be accompanied by a Manufactures representative to comply with BATF rules involving select fire weapons.

Currently the Arizona Department of Public Safety has two qualified gas impingement system AR15 style weapon systems, Bushmaster and Colt. These two manufactures need not submit a direct gas impingement operating system. Only manufactures with qualified weapon systems will be eligible to submit bids on future contracts.
