Arizona Department of Public Safety Investigates Fatal Collision involving three Yavapai County Sheriff's Detention Officers

On Saturday August 7, 2010 at approximately 6:15 a.m. on State Route 169 near the town of Dewey, Arizona, three Yavapai County Sheriff’s Detention Officers were traveling in a late model Pontiac Grand Prix owned by the driver which was eastbound. The Officers were on their way to the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde to begin their shift. At some point, their vehicle collided head-on with a heavy duty Dodge 3500 pick-up truck which was westbound.

DPS Investigators believe there was heavy rain falling at the time of collision. Two of the Yavapai County Detention Officers were deceased on-scene, a third was transported to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center where he later passed away. The driver of the pick-up truck which was loaded with squash and potatoes was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in critical condition.
