Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Southern Highway Patrol Bureau to conduct “Operation Safe Passage” on June 13, 2010
DPS officers to be posted every ten miles along I-8 and I-10 border to border
Friday, June 11, 2010 -
On Sunday, June 13, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., DPS will be conducting a traffic safety operation from the California / Arizona border to the New Mexico / Arizona border. The detail will be on eastbound and westbound Interstate 8 and Interstate 10. DPS Officers will be positioned every ten miles along both interstates watching for traffic violations, assisting stranded motorists, and providing a quick response to collisions. This operation will facilitate smooth traffic flow, a quick response to stranded motorists, and mitigate the effect of vehicle collisions reducing traffic flow.
With the summer vacation season upon us, traffic on Arizona’s interstate highways will be increasing. With more traffic comes an increase in stranded motorists, collisions, distracted or fatigued drivers, and impaired drivers.
As you travel this summer, remember to always wear your seat belt, get plenty of rest prior to leaving on a trip, take an occasional break while traveling to reduce fatigue, have extra water in your vehicle for emergencies, do not be distracted by talking on a cell phone or texting, do not drive impaired, reduce your speed and enjoy Arizona’s scenery. Make this a memorable summer, not a tragic one.
