Arizona Department of Public Safety Investigates fatal collision involving 5 vehicles

On April 27, 2010, at approximately 6:20 a.m. a white pickup truck was stopped in the gore point along westbound U.S. 60 near the Alma School Road on-ramp with a flat tire. A DPS motorist assist vehicle pulled up behind the disabled truck. The DPS employee witnessed the driver of the white pickup get out of his vehicle. At the nearby Alma School onramp, a blue 2007 Hyundai was waiting to enter the freeway when for an unknown reason, the vehicle was struck from behind by a grey 2001 Audi. The blue vehicle was pushed into the disabled pickup truck which in turn knocked its driver into the westbound lanes of U.S. 60 where he was struck and killed by a van.

Additionally, the driver of the blue Hyundai was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

All westbound lanes of U.S. 60 at Alma School road were re-opened shortly before 10:00 a.m.
