Wednesday, December 30, 2009 -

Contact PIO

DPS Highway Patrol officers have been very busy throughout the day in Northern Arizona investigating several weather related collisions and slide-off’s. State Route 180 has been backed up periodically throughout the day leading up to the Snowbowl. DPS Officers have been working in the area to assist with traffic control. Travelers to area ski resorts should call in advance to check on ski resort capacity. Travelers should also check or call 511 for the latest road and weather conditions.

In addition DPS would like to caution motorists traveling to the North Country to be aware of and prepared for snowy conditions and sub-freezing temperatures into the weekend. DPS strongly urges travelers not to pull over on the side of state highways to play in the snow. Attached on the photo link below is a map provided by the City of Flagstaff visitor’s center which contains the locations for popular designated snow play areas in and around Flagstaff. Also attached is a brochure on traveling in snow country, provided by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

Sgt. Gary Phelps will be available for media interviews in Flagstaff today and tomorrow as the storm system moves through the area. To arrange for an interview please email
