Arizona Department of Public Safety identifies victims from Burnt Wells Rest Stop fatal collision

On Wednesday, November 18, at approximately 12:15 p.m., a semi truck owned by May Trucking was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 at milepost 86 (70 miles west of Phoenix) when, for an unknown reason, the truck entered the median and proceeded to cross the eastbound lanes of the interstate. After crossing the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, the truck struck a residence at the Burnt Wells Rest stop that houses the rest stop’s caretakers.

A total of five people were in the backyard of the residence at the time of the crash. Four of them were transported to Phoenix area hospitals. The four adults listed below are employees of Apex Solutions, an ADOT Sub-Contractor, who maintains the rest stop. They had been living in the house since July. The truck crashed through the back-yard wall and into the house.

Residents of Caretaker House:

Carlos Gonzales, 52, Safford, Arizona was transported by ground ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was treated and released for injuries sustained by falling debris.

Sharon Gonzales, 42, Safford, Arizona was transported by ground ambulance to St. Joseph’s hospital where she was admitted for serious but non-life threatening injuries sustained.

Nicholas Gonzales, 12, Safford, Arizona was transported by ground ambulance to St. Joseph’s hospital where he was treated and released for injuries sustained by falling debris.

Employees of Apex Solutions who were injured but are not residents of the caretaker house:

Adolfo Sedillo, 70, Avondale, Arizona was flown to Good Samaritan hospital where he was admitted for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Jamie Beltran, 36, Phoenix sought her own treatment at St. Joseph’s hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries.
