Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer makes random traffic stop and discovers a half pound of meth worth $9,500 found hidden in a potato chip bag

On Oct. 1, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Canine Officer stopped a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling west on Interstate 10 near Marana for a moving violation and equipment violation. The officer used his narcotics canine to perform an exterior sniff of the vehicle. The canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed a half pound of Methamphetamine hidden in a potato chip bag on the rear seat. The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is $9,500 dollars. The driver, Enrique Orozco, 36, and the passenger Vanessa Concepcion Gaxiola, 27, both of Tucson, were arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail on charges of possession and transportation of dangerous drugs. The couple was traveling from Tucson to Phoenix. The drugs and pickup truck were seized.
