DPS Officer seizes over 100 pounds of marijuana near Benson

On October 5, 2009, at about 7:30 a.m., an Officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) stopped a 1995 GMC pickup on Interstate-10 at milepost 297 (five miles west of Benson) for excessive window tint. Located in the bed of the pickup, covered by a tarp, was 101 pounds of marijuana. The street value of the marijuana is $55,000 in U.S Currency.

The vehicle’s driver, and sole occupant, Fabian Fernando Hernandez, 34, of Tucson, was booked into the Cochise County Jail for possession/transportation of marijuana for sale.
