The DPS is a multifaceted, statewide law enforcement organization, with primary responsibilities in traffic and criminal law enforcement, criminal investigations, scientific analysis, statewide communications, training and assisting all levels of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies throughout the many communities in Arizona. DPS Officers are assigned and reside throughout the state where they patrol the roadways providing protection to the public through diligent enforcement of all laws and statutes. In performing these functions, some of the duties they perform are to interdict criminal activities such as human and drug smuggling and auto theft, investigate traffic collisions, direct and control traffic, arrest violators, assist stranded motorists, promote highway safety and assist other law enforcement agencies.
