Illegal Immigration Prevention & Apprehension Co-op Team (IIMPACT)
IIMPACT (Illegal Immigration Prevention & Apprehension Co-op Team) was formed almost a year ago. It is a project managed by the Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission (GIITEM), a multi-agency task force administered by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The multi-agency approach practiced by IIMPACT greatly assists with the investigation of property, financial, and violent crimes associated with illegal immigration and human smuggling in the greater Phoenix and Maricopa County areas. IIMPACT began active operations in December 2007. As of June 2009, a total of 203 human smugglers have been arrested with 245 felony charges filed. In addition, 70 drop houses have been investigated, $161,704 in U.S. currency has been seized and 987 undocumented aliens have been turned over to ICE.
