The Arizona Law Enforcement Academy (ALEA) provides basic training for Arizona Peace Officers, including sworn recruits at DPS, in accordance with the rules established by the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board.  The basic training curriculum at ALEA covers topics such as, but not limited to, criminal law, courtroom demeanor, constitutional law, patrol procedures, crowd control, impaired driver detection, traffic collision investigation, crime scene management, cultural awareness, report writing, first aid, firearms training, high risk stops, defensive tactics, vehicle operations and pursuit operations. 

ALEA also provides staffing and training support for multiple law enforcement agencies through a statewide partnership approach.
