This area of DPS houses a variety of key functions of critical importance to the agency, including human resources, research and planning, emergency management, department and public records, and safety and loss.
Human Resources originates and maintains programs and records to recruit and hire employees while also managing the Department’s human resources.
Research and Planning researches contemporary criminal justice issues and practices. It also administers surveys, publishes special reports, and conducts statistical analysis.
The Emergency Management function at DPS is responsible for performing work in the development, implementation, and management of the agency’s emergency response capabilities. It also manages the agency’s recovery, mitigation, risk reduction, prevention, and emergency preparedness efforts. The Emergency Management function at DPS also manages and coordinates the agency’s Emergency Operations Center.
The Department Records section receives, processes, and maintains all offense, incident, and collision reports for the agency.
The Public Records section responds to requests for department records and authenticates department records pursuant to subpoena for agency records.
Safety and Loss evaluates and processes all agency risk management claims and assures federal OSHA and EPA compliance.
