Training & Management Services

Overview

The Training and Management Services Bureau oversees the operations of Management Services, Department Records, and Operational Training.

Sections

Training and Management Services consists of the following sections:

Management Services

  • Handles all requests for public records with the exception of accident reports and accident photos.
  • Authenticates departmental records and responds to civil subpoena duces tecum.
  • Researches contemporary criminal justice issues, benchmarks the best practices of other organizations, designs and administers surveys, publishes specials reports and studies and conducts statistical analysis.
  • Coordinates and monitors the Department’s strategic plan, administrative rule making, and CompStat processes.
  • Participates in professional organizations (International Association of Law Enforcement Planners and the International Association of Chiefs of Police State and Provincial Police Planners Section).
  • Documents agency policy and procedure through systematic development and publication of departmental directives and procedural manuals.
  • Responsible for the agency’s compliance of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH), and the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) State Risk Management statutes, rules, regulations, standards, and directives.
  • Liaison to the Arizona Department of Administration Risk Management for the purposes of reporting and processing the agency’s damage and loss claims for vehicles, property, and glass and for processing workers’ compensation injuries to agency employees.
  • Conducts agency risk identification and assessment to implement a Loss Prevention Program to reduce the agency’s frequency and severity of losses.


Department Records Section

Department Records Section handles requests and filing of collision (accident) reports, photographs. For arrest reports written by DPS officers, contact the Public Records Unit.



Operational Training

  • Develops and coordinates advanced basic and in-service law enforcement training programs.
  • Provides field training for officers.
  • Coordinates and provides Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) training.
  • Develops and coordinates civilian employee training.
  • Coordinates with local government agencies to provide enhanced training opportunities for all employees.
  • Trains law enforcement and civilian instructors.
  • Provides firearms training, weapons maintenance and other armory services.
  • Develops and coordinates primary and in-service supervisor training.
  • Administers the Department’s Health and Wellness Program.
  • Develops and coordinates primary and in-service management training.
  • Administers the Department’s Tuition Reimbursement Program.
  • Maintains and manages the Department’s training records for all employees.
