Overview

The DPS Human Resources Bureau originates and maintains programs and records to recruit and hire employees while also managing the Department’s human resources.

It develops and maintains a comprehensive classification and compensation plan, position audits, through salary surveys to ensure internal equity. Moreover, Human Resources coordinates employee benefits, provides guidance on retirement planning, maintains personnel records and administers the Department’s Employee Assistance/ Behavioral Services Program and the Drug-Free Workplace Program.

Human Resources provides and administers the Department’s compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

With regards to potential new hires, Human Resources provides expertise with polygraph services in criminal and administrative investigations along with applicant backgrounds, along with outside agencies.  It maintains the Department’s test development to ensure clarity and testing objectives.

Within the agency, it coordinates and administers the Department’s promotional process to ensure equity and the selection of qualified candidates, which meet the criteria and direction established by the Director and his Executive Staff.
